Joe Scarborough – Batman Autism Apology | Autism Dad

Joe Scarborough – Batman Autism Apology | Autism Dad

mentioned yesterday that Joe Scarborough of MSNBC will most likely be feeling the wrath of the autism community over his recent comments made during Monday morning’s edition of “Morning Joe,  that the Batman shooter is probably on the autism spectrum.  Despite having a child of his own on the spectrum, Joe is getting some heat. This is one of those rare moments were lots of factions of the autism community will agree.  This is not in the realm of Michael Savage or Dennis Leary, but Joe should probably clarify his remarks / apologize.

Autism Dad | Joe Scarborough, Meet Autism Backlash

Joe Scarborough, Meet Autism Backlash

Even though Joe Scarborough has a child on the autism spectrum, he is in for a can full of holy whoop ass over the statements he made today.  Disclaimer: I like, Joe.  I think Joe should have run for president.  I am not sure why he didn’t despite a lot of conjecture.  That said, Joe will be promptly back-tracking and reexplaining what he meant to say by the time you read this post.

Autism Dad Ernie Els WINS British Open - Did it for son

Ernie Els knew he had to keep the putts rolling in for his son, Ben - Other Sports - Sport - Evening Standard

Ernie Els has revealed how his autistic son Ben was the inspiration behind one of the greatest comebacks in Open Championship history.

Els had to call on all his immense talent at Royal Lytham and St Annes to fight from six shots down at the turn in yesterday’s final round and card a back nine in four under par that proved just good enough to beat an imploding Adam Scott by one shot.

But always in the back of the South African’s mind was the thought that nine-year-old Ben was glued to the drama unfolding on television back home at Wentworth in Surrey. Els, who was celebrating his fourth Major victory 18 years after he claimed his first, said: “I made a lot of putts with Ben in mind because I knew he was watching.

“He loves it when I hit golf balls. He loves the flight of the ball and the sound. He gets really excited and I wanted to keep him excited, so I made a lot of putts for him.”

Teacher accused of attacking autistic student, threatens to cut out tongue - Orlando liberal | Examiner.com

Teacher accused of attacking autistic student, threatens to cut out tongue - Orlando liberal | Examiner.com

A Central Florida teacher has been accused of attacking an autistic student and threatening other children with scissors.

According to WFTV, investigators looked into the situation at Narcoossee Elementary School in St. Cloud, FL. The alleged attack occurred when the teacher, Pranee Andrus, grabbed five-year old, Phoenix Hanson by the legs and pulled him out from under a desk, dragging him across the floor. The boy's father, Craig Hanson, described the situation.

"He tried to get away from her and he ran to a corner. Not sure, under a desk, and she went and drug him out by his leg, which caused him to get rug burn on his elbow."

The teacher also asked the boy's fellow classmates for support in attacking him, asking the students, "should I hit him?" Since Phoenix has autism, he is unable to communicate at times and needs special attention. Phoenix isn't the only child that Andros has been accused of abusing, she has also been know to take out sharp scissors and threaten to cut out her student's tongues if they didn't behave.

Sutterella sp. Distinguish Children with Autism and GI Disorders from Those with GI Disorders but No Autism

Sutterella sp. Distinguish Children with Autism and GI Disorders from Those with GI Disorders but No Autism

52% of children with autism and GI problems, but none in children with only GI problems. Many children with autism had antibodies to Sutterella. "We are not concluding that Sutterella causes autism or gastrointestinal disease in children with autism," says Lipkin. "Nonetheless, our fındings suggest that microbiome studies may provide insights into why some children respond to antibiotics, probiotics, or diets that alter microflora." The researchers note that GI microbiota "plays an essential role in physiological homeostasis in the intestine and periphery. . . perhaps even influencing brain development and behavior."

Has Disney changed policy towards Autism?

I hope this is not true.  We went to Disney World last Sept and they were INCREDIBLE.  We would never have been able to do it without the pass.  I hope this is not true or if so, it changes, as we were hoping to return.  Autism families have a lot of money to spend in the park too and it would not have been possible without their special accommodations.

Mama Be Good: Autism, Disney, and Accommodation

After we went to the rides, we realized, Disney had indeed changed their policy. At three rides, we presented our GAC to the ride attendant at the line and, at all three rides, we were instructed to wait in the regular line. None of the attendants took the card or even looked at it. They merely looked at our party, saw no apparent disability, and waved us back to the regular line.
Waiting in lines took a mere ten minutes at the train, ten minutes at the Haunted Mansion, and ten minutes at Pirates (a detour since Snow White had closed). It doesn't sound long to me, having seen two-hour wait times there, and I'm sure it doesn't sound long to WDW employees. But remember all those challenges I mentioned? Hypotonia, high sensory reactivity, motor skills problems, auditory and visual perception problems? It doesn't matter how short the line is, these things are still a problem.

At the fourth line, after five minutes, I realized, too late, that Jack was past his breaking point. We ducked under the rope line and headed out.
