Team aims to help autistic children

Nanaimo's Junior A Timbermen used their home-opening game of the season Friday to launch a fundraising campaign called Goals For Dogs to raise money to help train guide dogs for autistic children.

Barbara Haley, communications manager for the British Columbia Guide Dog Service, said the lacrosse team is raising pledges for each goal that they score during the season to pay for the training of Tim, a black Labrador retriever.

Autistic guide dogs have additional training over seeing eye dogs, said Haley.
